Product description
Penguin 2008 Peter Opsvik Movement and variation: "When one tilts back on a chair, the best resting areas for the forearms are on either side of the backrest; when one tilts forward, the table surface is a natural area of support. This is why so many of my chairs have just such forearm supports". The chairs come with the original leather cushions which are still in clean condition. Only thing is some light wear of the paint on a few corners ( see detail pictures) On the last pictures you can see how the chair can be used. The Varier Penguin by Peter Opsvik is an iconic design developed in the 1980s and is characterized by its playful and innovative approach to sitting. Opsvik, a Norwegian industrial designer best known for his revolutionary approaches to ergonomic design, sought to add a new dimension to the way we sit and move with the Penguin chair. Design philosophy Peter Opsvik was known for challenging the traditional idea of static sitting. He believed that people should be able to move more freely while sitting and vary in different postures. The Penguin chair is designed to keep the body moving, even while sitting, providing less strain on the body and a more active, dynamic posture. Features of the Varier Penguin The Penguin chair has a unique, somewhat humorous design that resembles a penguin, adding to its playful appearance. The chair has no fixed seating position and encourages different seating positions, something characteristic of Opsvik's designs. Balance mechanisms in the design allow users of the chair to easily switch between leaning forward, leaning back and adopting other positions without being stuck in one position. This makes the chair not only ergonomically sound, but also extremely comfortable for long-term use. Legacy and influence Opsvik's work, including the Penguin, has had a lasting influence on the development of ergonomic chairs. His philosophy that "the best seating position is next" has inspired many designers to create chairs that encourage movement. Although no longer in production, the Penguin chair is still considered a visionary design and can be admired in certain design collections. The Varier Penguin remains a symbol of Opsvik's creative vision of functional, playful and ergonomic design, and its influence can still be seen in modern ergonomic furniture designed to promote dynamic sitting.
