Herbert Krenchel Krenit 4 bowl set first edition by Torben Orskov Denmark. first edit in metal enameled inside , gold medal triennale Milano '54 , measure; diameter bowl diameter 5 x height 3.4".. Herbert Krenchel Herbert Krenchel (1922- ) is a Danish civil engineer born in Copenhagen. He designed the Krenit bowl in 1953. The name is a combination of the designer's name and eternit, a fiber cement he used in his work as an engineer. The bowl had a matte black exterior, a thin edge and an enameled interior, and it won a gold medal at the Milan Triennale in 1954. Two years later, Krenchel created a melamine salad set for the line, taking his inspiration from chopsticks and Asian minimalist design. Before this time, salads were not common on Danish dinner tables, but Danes were just starting to include them in their meals. The Krenit salad set appeared on the cover of the first issue of the Danish interior design magazine Bo Bedre. The line has been out of production since 1966. The Krenit bowls have been reissued by Normann Copenhagen. These are made of steel and melamine, rather than the enamel of the originals
