The Flowerpot VP1 Pendant Lamp is a design by Verner Panton. The Flowerpot is a child of the 1960s, specifically the year 1968, which was rocked by student strikes around the world. The flowerpower generation of peace, love and harmony was on the rise and old, rigid norms and values were being jettisoned. Meanwhile, hanging in restaurants, exhibitions and later in people's homes was a colorful, playfully designed pendant lamp that was ahead of its time: the Flowerpot. Although Danish modernism at the time favored functionality and the use of natural materials such as wood, Panton became known precisely for his experimental work with bright colors and new materials. With his designs, he capitalized on the fact that, according to him, most people lived in a "gray-beige uniformity," "terrified to use colors. The Flowerpot lamp became a timeless icon that kicked against the dominance of functional design. This design has retained its charm to this day. The Flowerpot is a playful yet minimalist design that strives for mathematical precision: the bottom hemisphere is exactly half the size of the top one. These two metal shells are placed opposite each other, together forming a perfectly balanced shape. Because of the opposite placement, the light is diffused in a soft, indirect way. The lamp comes in different colors, from neutral to freshly colored. The wire is three meters and always the same color as the lampshade. The ceiling cap of the black lamp is black, on the other lamps the ceiling cap is white.
