Productomschrijving
Oak dining set, Dutch Art Deco period, Hague School, 1928. Oak oval dining table, on oval side-by-side legs, Dutch, the 1920s. Rationalist dining chairs, set of four, with carved front legs. Rationalist armchairs, a pair, with carved arms and legs. A piece as minimalist and modern for its time. Two elliptical forms following a juxtaposed axis show a great knowledge of mathematics, architecture and design. Truly an avant-garde object. Certainly an inspiration for later modern Scandinavian designers such as Axel Einar Hjorth. The name Rationalism is retroactively applied to an architectural movement that emerged during the Enlightenment (specifically Neoclassicism), which held that the intellectual basis of architecture is primarily scientific, as opposed to the veneration and emulation of archaic traditions and beliefs. Rationalist architects, following the philosophy of Rene Descartes, emphasized geometric forms and ideal proportions. Size: 81-84.W 131 cm, D 101 cm, H 75 cm, SH 45 cm
