Van Sliedregt's furniture is known for its simplicity and functionality. They perfectly reflect his admiration for designer Kaare Klint. Although he has a predilection for seating, the designer has also created beautiful tables. Dirk van Sliedregt was born in the Netherlands in 1920. He soon developed a passion for furniture design, and in particular for teaching. For many years, he taught at universities such as Enschede and Amsterdam. He was also director of the Kampen Academy of Fine Arts. He saw many talented students, including designer Mart van Schijndel and interior architect Evelyne Merkx. Van Sliedregt had a real attraction for rattan, and used the material extensively in his furniture designs. Noordwolde-based publisher Jonkers produced a number of Sliedregt collections. Although little-known in France, the designer had a profound influence on post-war design in the Netherlands.
