A prolific designer, Sarfatti designed over 600 lamp models. Throughout his career, he sought to use new materials, create new shapes and conceive new lighting technologies. He designed such design icons as the "2097" chandelier (1958), the "600" lamp (1966) and the "534" lamp (1951). Gino Sarfatti was born in Italy in 1912. He studied aeronautical engineering at the University of Genoa. In 1939, he began specializing in lighting design and founded Arteluce, a company that would become legendary. His lamps were so exceptional that he quickly achieved great success. He was awarded major prizes such as the Compas d'Or in 1954 and 1955. Sarfatti is undoubtedly one of the greatest designers of the 20th century.
