Richard is a designer renowned for his quest for perfection. Early on, he developed a pronounced taste for sobriety in colors, shapes and materials. He designed numerous pieces published in the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s: chairs, coffee tables, pendant lamps, desks, enfilades and more. Alain Richard was born in France in 1926. He developed a passion for design at an early age, and demonstrated a real talent for furniture design: he graduated top of his class in 1949 from René Gabriel's workshop at the Ecole Nationale Supérieur des Arts Décoratifs. He subsequently joined his teacher's agency. In 1952, the young designer founded his own design studio with his wife Jacqueline Iribe. His furniture and other creations are published by some of the biggest names in design: Groupe 4 Charron, Lavrilleux, Meubles TV and Disderot. Throughout his career, the famous French designer received prestigious awards such as the Grand Prix de la Triennale de Milan in 1954 and the Prix René Gabriel ten years later.
