Platner's pieces are distinguished by their originality and specificity: they are most often composed of steel rods, as in the furniture series he created in the 1960s. These include chairs and tables made from a combination of steel wire, fabric, glass and even wood. Warren Platner was born in the United States in 1919. He studied architecture at Cornell University, graduating in 1941. He soon began working with a number of major American firms. He collaborated with such design greats as Raymond Loewy. From 1960 to 1965, Eero Saarinen and Platner teamed up on a number of projects, including the Washington D.C. airport. This produced the famous steel rod furniture. In 1967, the American designer founded his own firm in Connecticut: Platner Associates. Today, Platner furniture is an icon of 20th-century design and vintage furniture.
