He drew his inspiration and influences from Scandinavian furniture, Japanese style and the work of the Eames couple. The furniture he creates is characterized by real simplicity, functionality and durability. His jersey-molded chairs are benchmarks, as evidenced by the success of the Ruban (1966) and Mushroom (1963) armchairs, as well as the Amphis sofa (1969). Pierre Paulin was born in France in 1927. After studying at the Camondo school, he joined the workshop founded by Pierre Guariche and Michel Mortier. His name and work quickly made a name for themselves in the world of design. His creations were exhibited at the Salon des Arts Ménagers in 1953. Later, he was in charge of furnishing Christian Dior's offices. In 1970, he began a collaboration with Mobilier National, designing furniture for President Georges Pompidou and then for President François Mitterrand at the Elysée Palace. In 1975, he and his wife founded the AD/SA agency. His creations are legendary pieces that are exhibited in major museums around the world. Paulin's bold vision has left its mark on twentieth-century design.
