Motte contributed to the design of public spaces such as Orly airport and Le Havre ferry terminal. He also contributed to the design of Paris metro stations. He is the designer of such fine pieces as the 770 armchair (1958), the 771 chair (1958) and the Bahut enfilade (1958). Joseph-André Motte was born in France in 1925. He quickly excelled in furniture design, graduating top of his class from the Ecole des Arts Appliqués à l'Industrie (now ENSAAMA). His first job was with the Bon Marché art studio. In 1954, he met Pierre Guariche and Michel Mortier - famous designers - with whom he founded the Atelier de Recherche Plastique (ARP). He also joined Groupe 4, founded by René-Jean Caillette, Geneviève Dangles and Alain Richard. In the 1950s, Motte began working with the renowned publisher Steiner. From 1966 to 1968, he was president of the Société des Artistes Décorateurs. He also taught for 30 years at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs.
