He studied at the École Boulle in Paris and began his design career working for furniture manufacturers. He quickly gained a reputation for his innovative and functional approach to design. Mathieu has worked for many renowned companies, including Air France, for whom he designed flight crew uniforms, as well as the interiors of certain aircraft. He also worked for the Société Nationale des Chemins de Fer Français (SNCF), designing seats for trains. Mathieu was particularly renowned for his work in lighting. He created luminaires for public and private spaces, as well as for companies such as Philips. He also worked on interior architecture projects and designed furniture for private clients. Henri Mathieu was a versatile designer who succeeded in combining functionality and aesthetics in his creations. His contribution to French industrial design is still recognized and appreciated today.
