Mangiarotti was a prolific designer, responsible for such design icons as the "Lesbo" lamp (1967), the "Saffo" lamp (1967), the "Eros" table (1971), the "Spirale" suspension lamp (1974) and the "Skipper" table (1980). Angelo Mangiarotti was born in Milan in 1921. He studied at the School of Architecture and the Milan Polytechnic. In 1953, he moved to the United States, and more precisely to Chicago, where he taught at the Illinois Institute of Technology. He met Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, Frank Llyod Wright, Walter Gropius and Konrad Wachsmann. On his return from the USA, he opened an architectural practice with Bruno Morassutti. In 1989, he founded Mangiarotti & Associates in Tokyo. From 1986 to 1992, he was artistic director of Colle Cristalleria. Mangiarotti has always attached great importance to plastic research. His personality, his work and his creations have made him an outstanding figure in Italian design.
