Magistretti designed timeless pieces such as the Carimate chair (1950), the Maralunga sofa (1973) and the Nuvola Rossa bookcase (1977) for Cassina. He has also designed best-sellers for publishers such as Kartell, Artemide, O-Luce and B&B Italia. Vico Magistretti was born in Milan in 1920. After graduating in architecture in 1945, he joined his father's studio and worked on various design and architectural projects. He quickly gained recognition in the design world, receiving the Grand Prix of the VIII Triennale in 1948. This was the first of many awards, more than forty in all! He teaches at numerous design schools and lectures around the world: Milan, New York, Paris and London. He has been an Honorary Fellow of the Royal College of Art since 1983. Many of the lamps and objects he designed during his lifetime are in the permanent collections of major museums, and have also been the subject of exhibitions.
