He popularized Dutch design worldwide. The look of his furniture resembles the industrial style, with its recurrent use of metal. In 1958, he designed the "Result" chair, a model that made him particularly famous. Friso Kramer was born in Amsterdam in 1922. He studied interior architecture at the Amsterdam Institute of Applied Arts. In 1945, he worked for the interior design firm JP Kloos. From 1948 to 1963, he was employed as a designer by the publisher De Cirkel, a company owned by the Ahrend Group since 1939. In 1963, he founded his own design studio, Total Design. He went on to hold key positions as head of the Gerrit Rietveld Academy, the Ahrend design studio and the Arts Council. In 1994, he was appointed Officer of the Order of Orange-Nassau. His work has been the focus of numerous exhibitions and retrospectives.
