He began his design career in the 1930s, after studying at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts. In the early 1950s, he founded his own furniture design company, which produced innovative pieces such as the famous "Johannes Andersen" chair, which has become a modern design classic. Over the years, Johansson has worked with many world-renowned design brands, including Fredericia Furniture, Cado and Bo-Ex. He has won numerous awards for his work, including the Danish Design Institute Prize in 1957 and the Gold Medal at the Brussels World Exhibition in 1958. Johansson is considered one of Denmark's most influential designers and helped shape the modern Scandinavian design style. His furniture is still popular today and is regarded as an example of Danish design excellence.
