Born in Copenhagen in 1914, Hansen studied carpentry at the Copenhagen School of Crafts before working as a joiner. He then studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, where he developed his modernist design style. In 1944, Hansen founded his own furniture company, Hans Hansen Furniture, with his wife, Grethe. The company quickly became known for its innovative and functional designs, which won several prestigious awards. Among Hansen's best-known creations is the "PP501" chair (also known as "The Round One"), which was launched in 1950 and is today considered a classic of Danish design. He also designed furniture for major companies such as Fritz Hansen and Le Klint. Hansen died in 1968, but his legacy in the world of Danish design continues to be celebrated today.
