A prolific and talented designer, he left his mark on the design world with numerous pieces. The Butterfly chair (1958), the Windsor series (1956) and the Quaker chair (1960) are all creations recognized today for their design and quality. Lucian Ercolani was born in Italy in 1888. At the age of 10, he moved to England with his parents. He later studied at Shoreditch Technical Institute, where he became familiar with furniture-making and design. In 1910, he met Frédérik Parker and joined his company. For the next 10 years, he worked for the Parker Group, which later joined forces with Willi Knoll to become Parker Knoll. The company is renowned for the design and quality of its armchairs and chairs. He also worked with Gomme's. At the age of 32, he founded his own furniture production company: ERCOL. The company gained an international reputation for its famous designs and excellent production quality.
