He designed pieces that have become legendary, such as the Togo sofa-cushion, whose polyester foam composition gives it unique comfort. The Jeune line of furniture, the 459 lounge chair and the Kashima, Safi and Koufra chairs have made him a household name. Michel Ducaroy was born in France in 1925. He studied at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-arts de Lyon. He then joined the family business producing contemporary furniture. In 1954, he joined Ligne Roset in the Ain region. Until the end of his career, he headed the design department. The 60s and 70s saw the emergence of new materials. Ducaroy took an interest in these innovations: foam, wadding, thermoformed plastic... His approach to materials and shapes made his creations modern and timeless. His seating designs quickly won critical and popular acclaim. The legendary Togo sofa was presented at the Salon des arts ménagers in Paris the year of its release. Michel Ducaroy is one of the most important French designers of the 20th century.
