Passionate about materials such as steel, iron and brass, he also appreciates the use of copper to play with light. The S-Chair (1991) and Fat (1991) are legendary works. Tom Dixon was born in Tunisia in 1959 and moved to England at the age of 4. Educated at the Chelsea School of Art, he played guitar in a rock band until a serious motorcycle accident. During this long period of convalescence, he discovered another passion: welding. He then began a career as a designer. This self-taught designer quickly achieved impressive success. In 2002, he founded his own design agency. He has also been artistic director for Habitat and Artek, the famous company founded by Alvar Aalto. His creations are exhibited in some of the world's finest museums, including the Centre Pompidou, MoMa and the London Design Museum. He was voted designer of the year by the Salon Maison & Objets in 2014. He is one of the most original designers of his time.
