Brauer was known for his innovative use of color and form, as well as for his mastery of the glass-blowing technique. He designed several series of colored glass glasses and vases for Holmegaard, which enjoyed great commercial success and won numerous design awards. In addition to his glass work, Brauer also designed furniture in metal and wood, as well as lighting and textiles. He was an active member of the Danish Association of Designers and participated in numerous design exhibitions around the world. Sadly, Brauer died prematurely in 1967 at the age of 49, but his legacy in the world of Danish and international design remains important today.
