In 1968, while still students, they designed a series of pendant lamps called SM. The sober curves and clean lines give these lamps a great elegance. The two students' innovative vision took the design world by surprise. Bonderup and Thorup were born in Denmark in 1943 and 1944 respectively. They met while studying at the School of Architecture. After graduating, Bonderup flew to Brazil to work with the architect Segio Bernard. A few years later, he moved back to Denmark to work with Torsten Thorup's firm, founded in 1968 and considered one of the most prestigious in Denmark. Throughout their careers, they have received numerous awards, starting with first prize in a competition organized by the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts School of Architecture. Their collaboration has resulted in numerous Scandinavian clocks and lamps. Two of their creations are on display at MoMa in New York.
