After studying architecture in Stockholm, Hans Bergström worked for the Swedish lighting firm Ateljé Lyktan, where he quickly rose through the ranks to become artistic director. During his career, he created many renowned luminaires, such as the "Ballroom" lamp in 1947, the "Zodiac" lamp in 1950 and the "Fantasia" lamp in 1957. His creations are characterized by a clean, functional design, combined with high manufacturing quality and the use of high-quality materials. His luminaires have been widely distributed in Europe and North America and have won numerous awards and distinctions, including the Good Design Award from the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Hans Bergström has also been a teacher and mentor to many Swedish designers. In 1960, he was appointed Professor of Industrial Design at the School of Industrial Design, Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm. Today, his creations are considered classics of Scandinavian design and are exhibited in numerous art and design museums around the world.
