He studied at the Milan Polytechnic and graduated in architecture in 1929. Early in his career, he worked with the famous Italian designer Gio Ponti. In 1930, he founded his own design and decoration firm. In 1939, he designed a glass radio with an audacious style, since it was possible to see the mechanism. The transparency shocked the public, and the radio was never produced. It wasn't until the 50s that he enjoyed his greatest successes with Cassina and Poggi. In 1955, he won the Compasso d'Oro (Italian prize) for the Luisa chair. His creations are renowned for their elegance and modernity, thanks to a combination of raw materials and artisanal techniques. Franco Albini is one of the great names in Italian design.
