After completing his studies, Ballez worked in several design agencies before setting up his own studio in 1970. Over the course of his career, he has designed a wide variety of objects, from furniture and lighting fixtures to kitchen utensils and office accessories. Ballez has also distinguished himself in the design of stands for trade shows and exhibitions, as well as in the creation of sets for theater and cinema. Among Ballez's most famous creations are the "Remus" chair for the Belgian company Bulo, the "Espero" chair for the French company Thonet and the "Tulip" lighting fixtures for the Belgian company Trizo21. Willy Ballez also taught design at several schools, including the École supérieure des arts visuels de La Cambre in Brussels. He passed away in 2008.
