He studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen before working in Kaare Klint's Danish design practice. In 1948, Schou set up his own design company, which quickly gained a reputation for its modern, elegant furniture. Schou has also worked as an interior designer on projects such as the SAS Royal Hotel in Copenhagen and the Danish Embassy in Washington DC. He won numerous awards for his work, including the gold medal at the Brussels World Fair in 1958. His best-known creations include the "T-Chair" in 1957 and the "Cross-Plex" table in 1960. Schou was always concerned with the quality of his designs, using high-quality materials and local craftsmen to manufacture his furniture. Today, Werner Schou's creations are still highly sought-after by collectors and design enthusiasts worldwide for their timeless elegance and exceptional quality.
