Creating a stylish and comfortable home office

Whether you work from home a few days a week, run a business, study or just need somewhere quiet to update the admin, of course you prefer to do it in a comfortable, stylish and productive workspace. Of course you prefer to do it in a comfortable, stylish and productive workspace. A pleasant home office invites you to spend more time and work in a relaxed way, leaving you with enough energy to devote to other tasks at the end of the day. Tip 1 Search: which space suits my working habits?

First of all, think carefully about your working habits. Are you easily distracted? Do you need peace and quiet? Do you need an overview? Or do you work well with clutter? Based on this, choose the best place for you to work. Do you have a spare room or space? Or can you sacrifice one? If so, opt for a separate space. Don't cram your "home office" between the kitchen and the dining table. You probably spend a lot of time there. A workspace should be as comfortable as possible, a place where you can concentrate.

Tip 2: Function first, beauty second

It sounds so wonderfully sensible and perhaps a little Dutch: "go for function and not just looks". But for a home office, it's a no-brainer. After all, you spend a lot of time there and space should be at the service of your productivity. Make sure that your desk, cupboards and storage spaces are functional first and aesthetically pleasing second. Think about it: how much storage space do I need? Can I make do with a small desk or am I more comfortable with a large one? Will I be receiving guests? How many screens and technologies do I need? Decide on your office and workspace according to these criteria. And above all, invest in a good chair. Your back will thank you.

Tip 3 Dress up your workspace with attractive accessories

As you spend a lot of time in your home office, you want the space to be welcoming and for you to enjoy being there. Dress it up! Decoration can work wonders. Choose accessories or works of art that match your style and mood at work and that inspire you. You can continue in this vein right down to the smallest details, such as a pencil box, pretty notebooks or a pretty pen. Personalise your space by hanging pictures or a painting that moves you. If you have a small workspace, hang a mirror, preferably opposite a window for more light. Create a positive and pleasant atmosphere.

Tip 4 Place your desk in the centre

When setting up a workspace, it's sometimes tempting to place all the furniture against the wall. But don't! It's a waste of space and you certainly won't get the best out of it. Place your desk in the centre of the room and away from the wall. Your desk should occupy a central position in the workspace. Not only does it invite you to work, it also gives the room a clear function and a certain degree of comfort. Sit with your back to the wall, not the door. This can be a source of agitation. Finally, keep your desk tidy. Make sure that everything has a clearly defined place and function. This will prevent piling up and eliminate clutter and commotion. Everything you need for a clean, calm office.
