The Vitra Eames Lounge Chair is a design by American design icons Charles and Ray Eames, who made pioneering contributions to furniture and industrial design during the last century. In particular, the technique they developed to form plywood and fiberglass into seat shells was revolutionary at the time and resulted in designs that are still produced and loved today. One of the absolute icons of Charles and Ray's repertoire is the Lounge Chair. Optimal comfort was one of the most important goals when designing the Lounge Chair at the time, so there was a lot of experimentation with fabric and leather types. After its launch in 1956, the fabric-upholstered Lounge Chair was only available for a short period of time and was then withdrawn from the collection. In 2023, Vitra is reintroducing the upholstered Eames Lounge Chair with a beautiful, soft bouclé fabric: Nubia.
