Product description
This hunger canvas was painted by Alemayehu Bizuneh and is from Ethiopia (1978). Printed on linen. In the 1970s, a "hunger cloth" was used in churches during Lent during the 40-day period before Easter. The German development organization "Misereor" therefore commissioned artists from the Third World to paint linen canvases with a biblical theme applied to their local situation. This hunger canvas called "The Grape Press" was painted according to time-honored Ethiopian traditions. Eleven biblical scenes seek the answer to the question of suffering and call for repentance.
The canvas is a large size (246x183cm) and has beautiful warm atmospheric colors and is in fine condition.
