About the designer
Martin Visser is one of the most famous furniture designers in the Netherlands. He worked in the furniture department of De Bijenkorf, where he stood out so much that in 1954 he was asked to work as head designer at Spectrum .
His most famous design is the BR 02 sofa bed, from 1960, a true design classic! is Vissers and now a real design classic! During his 20-year period as head designer at Spectrum , Visser connected big names to Spectrum such as Friso Kramer, Hein Stolle, Gerrit Rietveld and Kho Liang Ie.
In the 1950s and 60s , Martin Visser designed many pieces of furniture for Spectrum. He devised a simple system that allows the furniture to recognize its function. b=sofa, s=chair and t=table. The second letter refers to the function; BR = a sofa to rest on, SE is a chair for the dining room and SZ a chair for the living room, in this case the SZ 72. The two numbers then indicate the model.
