Artist
Herman (Hermanus Cornelis) van Valen (1916-1996). Qualifications graphic artist, painter, sculptor, enameler, monumental artist. Born in Eindhoven on January 6, 1916. He moved to Amsterdam in 1941, where he was taught by Willy Broers, the founder of the group "Vrij Beelden". After the Second World War, Herman van Valen met the Cobra artist Constant Nieuwenhuys, who helped him discover his own direction, his own world in art. For Van Valen, this world mainly consists of the cosmos and the planets, a recurring theme in his work. Many of his etchings and paintings have the cosmos as a motif. He populates his spatial world with suns, planets and female figures. Work by Herman van Valen is represented in national and municipal collections and by various private collectors in the Netherlands, America, Canada and Japan. From 1962 onwards, Herman van Valen regularly exhibited his etchings and paintings. First in his own gallery Orpheus, later also in various other galleries and exhibition spaces. Herman van Valen died on June 11, 1996.
At most some scratches on the wooden frame.
