Product description
Introducing the La Basilica table by renowned Italian designer Mario Bellini. This table is a beautiful architectural masterpiece that will elevate any interior. It features a generous rectangular tabletop crafted from tough ash wood. The sleek lines and minimalist aesthetic showcase Bellini's signature style. Expertly designed and made in Italy, it exudes quality and sophistication. The table's base consists of two sculptural pedestals that create an eye-catching architectural look. Bellini took inspiration from the grandeur and symmetry of a basilica when designing these unique legs.
If this specific table could talk... He would tell you that his first owner, the American dancer and choreographer William Forsythe, bought him in the 1970s from his first salary as a choreographer in Germany. When I drove to St. Moritz, Switzerland, to pick up the table, I met William's daughter. She told us this story about her dad and the table which witnessed many family moments. And, obviously, William’s creativity and idiosyncrasy were not limited to his dance choreographies; William once 'narrowed' the Basilica to make a sidetable of it! At a specific moment William just wanted a sidetable, so he made this Basilica table a better fit for what he needed. Where there is a will, there’s a way! So, this means that each of the two beams, where the three table-legs are joined together, are both disrupted (see pictures). We decided not to replace the beams considering the unique story of William Forsythe and the overall great condition of this table.
