Christian Marche is a French artist, designer and painter, born on August 17, 1935. He illustrated over 150 pinball machines in the 1960s/1970s. He died on December 29, 2008.tableau :27.5cmx17.5cm Framed:41.4 cmx33.5cm. After completing his military service in Algeria, Christian Marche moved to the U.S. in 1964[1], settling in Chicago and landing a job as a graphic designer with Advertising Posters. He joined George Molentin and Gordon Morison on the company's art team. While at Advertising Posters, Christian Marche illustrated numerous pinball machines for Williams, Bally and Chicago Coin (but mainly Williams)[2] His first backglass was for the Casanova pinball machine (Williams, 11/1966) and his last was for the Tri Zone (Williams, 07/1979). Christian Marche has illustrated over 150 pinball machines, making him the 3rd most prolific designer in this field after George Molentin and Roy Parker. C. Marche drew other types of arcade games: shooting games, bowling games, baseball games... He left the United States in the late 1970s to join a family member with health problems. Christian Marche left this country with regret. He appreciated the working atmosphere at Advertising Posters, as there were few constraints on his designs and he could let his imagination run wild[2]. Back in France, he took up painting. His cubist style met with relative success. In the 1990s, he won the first prize for painting in the town of Aix-en-Provence. Christian Marche drew much of his inspiration from the work of Jerry Kelley, an illustrator working in the pinball industry like himself. Kelley was at the origin of a new style that overturned the rules of pinball illustration at Williams, Bally and other manufacturers of the time. [3] Clearly influenced by the cubist art of 1910-1925, Jerry Kelley chose a geometric, almost abstract style, reminiscent of the paintings of Braque, Fernand Léger and Picasso. [4] This graphic style is generally referred to as the "angular" or "pointy people" style. Christian Marche adopted this style at Bally and Williams. He quickly became the most prominent exponent of the "angular" style, simply by the number of games he designed in this vein. Marche used the "angular" style for graphic successes such as Jolly Roger (12/1967), Smart Set (06/1969) and OXO (10/1973), but also as a somewhat systematic convenience. Through Christian Marche, derivatives of Kelley's style were to dominate Williams aesthetics until the mid-1970s. Stardust, Williams 10/1971 Gulfstream, Williams 05/1973 OXO, Williams 10/1973 A versatile and tireless artist, Christian Marche was able to adapt his designs to all kinds of styles. He doesn't just create angular illustrations. Some of his work is more realistic. For example, this backglass: Bow and arrow, Bally 11/1975 3 Les flippers de C. Marche Very Hot Pants, Bally ????
