Wigger Bierma graduated from the Graphic Design Department of the Arnhem Academy of Art in 1985. He worked as an assistant for Walter Nikkels, taught at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy and in 1998 set up the Werkplaats Typografie in Arnhem with Karel Martens. In 2006 he was appointed Professor of Typography Künstlerische Entwicklungsvorhaben at the Hochschule für bildende Künste Hamburg.
