Antique Persian Rug, Feraghan Style, 19th Century – Iran – 305 x 155 cm. This beautiful, decorative, and exclusive antique Persian rug was made in the 19th century using a traditional process that no longer exists today. It is a highly valued piece today. It is handmade with natural, durable materials, using wool over cotton. The way it is knotted and the diversity of its stylistic motifs, with floral and vegetal lacework and various geometric shapes, make this piece a true work of art. As usual, it has a central medallion and a rich border framing the floral field. The decorations on the Feraghan rug (from an Iranian region) are highly influenced by the Hérati motif, present in the central medallion. The border, meanwhile, is composed of a series of narrow bands also loaded with infinite ornaments. These rugs are very sober and were highly appreciated in English mansions of the Victorian era.
