Product description
The Knoll Studio Barcelona Chair is an iconic design by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe. In 1929, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe was asked to design the German Pavilion for the Barcelona World's Fair. He created a rhythmic whole in which the Barcelona Chair, then called MR90, took center stage. The distinctive cross frame was based on curule seats from ancient Rome and combined with contemporary materials. For example, the graceful frame is formed from chrome, which is hand-polished to a mirror-like finish. The back and seat are interwoven with bands of cow leather, which are dyed in the same color as the seat cushions. These foam cushions are covered with top quality leather. All 40 flats are hand hemmed and buttoned, all from one piece of leather. Although the chair was first produced in Germany, Mies donated the manufacturing rights to his close friend Florence Knoll in 1948. A signature and KnollStudio logo can be found on the frame. The only thing that has changed since the first version is the comfort, which has been significantly improved by the addition of extra wadding.
The Barcelona Chair is 75 centimeters wide, 77 centimeters high and 77 centimeters deep. The seat height is 43 centimeters.
leather has signs of use/wear. This gives the chairs character.
