Product description
Originating from Teheran in Iran in the 1960s - Born of volcanic activity, glass has existed in its natural state for several hundred thousand years. The technique of glassblowing is said to have been used in Syria around the 1st century BC! Between the end of the 4th century and the beginning of the 1st millennium BC, the production of perfume flasks, seals and cylindrical glass tubes began in Iran. Various pieces can be found in numerous archaeological sites! This craft still exists in Iran, mainly in Tehran, where there are still some thirty workshops. The most famous is the Bakhtiyâri glassworks in Varâmin! The main raw material is powdered silica. It is mixed with various metal oxides to color the glass: manganese for violet, cobalt for blue, chromium for green and cadmium for yellow and orange. The glasses are not identical: one is 14cm high, the other 13.7cm.
