Antique Nepalese Shaman Mask with Large Eyes Origin: Nepal, Middle Hills / Himalayas Dating: c. 1900–1930 Material: hand-carved wood Dimensions: H 28 × W 18.5 cm Weight: 1 kg SKU: 815 Expressive Ritual Mask This heavily crafted wooden mask belongs to the ritual and folk art traditions of the Nepalese Middle Hills. The large spherical eyes, long protruding nose, and wide smiling mouth with incised teeth give the mask a distinct and almost theatrical expression. Construction and Surface The back is very deeply hand-hollowed and shows clear chopping and carving marks. The front has a dark, aged surface with wear and local remnants of red pigment around the mouth. The rectangular side blocks and the high, flat top reinforce its sculptural character. Condition Good antique condition with signs of age and use. An old crack is visible at the top; furthermore, there are minor edge damages, surface wear, and localized material losses.
