From the 13th century onwards, Buddha is depicted in a particularly elegant, slender form, with a high, flame-shaped appendage on his head, symbolizing wisdom.
This image of the "Monday" Buddha is in gilded copper alloy, his hands depicted in abhaya mudra (Absence of fear), and he stands on a 4-level octagonal lotiform pedestal.
Thailand (Siam), Rattanakosin period (1782-1932). This piece dates from the early 20th century.
It is still sealed with its export license from the Thai Department of Fine Arts.
