The P254 or Tivoli light is designed by Danish architect Jørn Utzon in 1947 and produced by Nordisk Solar Compagni. This is a true timeless design piece, created almost 70 years ago. Inspired by the engineering drawings his father made working as naval architect in Copenhagen, Denmark, Jørn Utzon created fantastic architecture and designs such as the Sydney Opera House and this classic, elegant lamp. Originally the light was introduced as the "Tivoli light" and produced by Nordisk Solar Compagni. During the 1960s the it was re-introduced as P254 / Jørn Utzon light as the Tivoli Garden in Copenhagen did not allow for their brand name to be used for this purpose. These lamps are usually seen in the form of a pendant lights but this is a rare pair of a ceiling mounted lights produced in the 1970s. They are made from brushed aluminium with a matte golden surface. The center ring had white matte lacquer. This ceiling lamp version of It is also known by the name of Halsskov because it was used in large numbers in the interiors of the ferries then crossing the Great Belt between the ports of Halsskov and Nyborg. Good vintage condition with some minor scratches seen at close examination. No bends or dents. Original porcelain E27 light bulb. Only sold as a pair. Danish lighting manufacturer Nordisk Solar was founded in 1919 by Jacob L. Jørgensen and Herluf Sørensen and is well known today on the vintage markets for its mid-century modern pendants and layered lighting designs.
