1999 B-Service Royal Tichelaar. Hella Jongerius created the porcelain B-Service for Royal Tichelaar, for which she drew inspiration from second choice products with minor manufacturing defects, such as those so often found in factory outlets. She even defied quality masters by deliberately firing semi-finished products at "too high" a temperature, creating intriguing distortions and random color material effects. The B-set is special because Jongerius does not strive for perfection. The handmade dinnerware is not all tightly round, but shows irregularities. Tichelaar: ,,Jongerius is true to the art of imperfection. That makes her work very special.'' The designer herself says of her work: ''I try to make products that you really love, that you want to have with you all your life and that you want to pass on to your family later.'' She dislikes the ephemerality of design. ''People are tired of innovation and waiting for meaningful objects. On things you get attached to.'' Small vase of white glazed pottery from the B set.
