Product description
Coffee table by Sven Ivar Dysthe for Dokka Møbler 1960s Norway ‘1001 Link’ Rosewood and steel 42.5cm high, 69.5cm wide, 68.5cm deep Sven Ivar Dysthe (1931–2020) was one of Norway’s most prominent furniture designers. He trained as a cabinetmaker before studying industrial design at the Royal College of Art in London, where he gained early recognition by designing a ceremonial box for Queen Elizabeth II’s coronation in 1953. Dysthe’s career took off with the 1001 AF armchair, launched in 1960 for Dokka Møbler. The chair, celebrated for its geometric elegance, became a cornerstone of Norwegian modern design and earned the prestigious International Citation Award. Other key works include the Laminat series, which won a gold medal at the Ljubljana Biennale in 1964, and the Laminette chair, a stackable design that sold over 800,000 units. Known for his innovative approach, Dysthe also created experimental designs like the Planet chair and practical solutions like the Gardist seating for Oslo Airport. His versatility extended to industrial design, including ski bindings and lamps. His creations remain in production, reflecting his lasting influence on Scandinavian design.
